Helping a family in Cartagena, Colombia

As we waited for the city sightseeing hop on-hop off bus in the sweltering Cartagena heat, a man on the sidewalk approached us to buy chilled bottled water. We noticed his wife and son were both with him and subsequently learned that they just moved to the city for a job opportunity  and were staying with a distant relative. We bought some water bottles to support them and asked if they’d be around later.

Once we confirmed they were still around, we ordered some takeout food (fish, pork, chicken) for the family, picked up a cup of fresh fruit for their son, and gave the dad $100 CAD as a "boost" start in Cartagena.
